Randall Park, the Korean-American actor who played the role of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in the Sony Pictures film "The Interview," said he "truly" hopes the best things will happen to North Koreans.

He made the remark during a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday (local time) held to promote a new ABC sitcom "Fresh Off the Boat," adding that he did not want to comment on political issues caused by the film.

Park, who plays the role of an Asian immigrant father in the sitcom, said while smiling that he was glad that (the sitcom) did not cause any "international trouble" the way "The Interview" did. "I`m glad that the dust has settled."

During the early days after the film`s release, some people were concerned about possible North Korean threats to his safety. He said he gained about nine kilograms to play the North Korean leader but has now returned to normal.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Park said he wanted to visit South Korea, which he had not visited since he was 10. Asked if he wanted to visit Pyongyang, he flatly said, "No."
