Dastkar Design Fair 2015

Weirdass Pajama Festival

Gear up for a laugh riot this weekend, courtesy the Weirdass Pajama Festival. More than 100 artistes will get together to showcase new acts and restage old ones at multiple venues across the city. The highlights include Vir Das’ show “Unbelievablish", which revolves around dishonesty and telling tall tales. Ten women from five countries will take the stage in “Femme Funny"; and a line-up of Bollywood’s funny men will come together to salute the ultimate king of comedy, Johnny Lever.

Russian dramatist Nikolai Gogol wrote The Government Inspector in 1836 as a satirical play. Set in a small town beset with corruption, this comedy of errors has been adapted and directed by Akarsh Khurana. The cast includes Adhir Bhat, Hussain Dalal, Adhaar Khurana and Siddharth Kumar.

The ITC Sangeet Research Academy will present a vocal recital by Sayaree Dutta, who will be accompanied by Bivash Sanghai on tabla and Rupashree Bhattacharya on harmonium. Dutta’s recital will be followed by a vocal performance by Maitreyee Roy Dadarkar, who will be accompanied by Sanghai. Dutta has been training in classical music since the age of 5, while Dadarkar’s training began at the age of 6.

Hyderabad Literary Festival

23-26 January

Urdu will be the language in focus at this year’s festival. The highlights will include Tom Alter’s theatre performance based on the work of Urdu poet Sahir Ludhianvi and poet/lyricist Javed Akhtar’s recitation of Urdu poems. There will be a plenary on India’s endangered languages, titled “The Post-Human Language".

The final day will see a discussion between Bharatanatyam dancer Leela Samson, who resigned recently as the chair of the Central Board of Film Certification, and film-maker Mahesh Bhatt on “Cultural And Creative Pluralism In Modern Day India". Poland will be the guest nation at the festival.
