MANGALURU: A cabinet sub-committee constituted to go in to pros and cons of declaring villages along the Western Ghats as ecologically sensitive areas will visit Dakshina Kannada on January 27. The sub-committee comprises of B Ramanath Rai, minister for forest, environment, ecology and DK district in-charge, Vinay Kumar Sorake, minister for urban development and Udupi district in-charge and T B Jayachandra, minister for law and parliamentary affairs.

A B Ibrahim, deputy commissioner in an official communique here on Thursday stated will discuss threadbare the inclusion of villages in DK as ecologically sensitive areas as per recommendations contained in the Kasturirangan Committee report on Western Ghats with elected representatives, environmental activists, and non-governmental organisations. DC requested all those interest to take part in this meet to register with their respective tahshildars a day before the meet.
DC said elected representatives will be permitted to speak first at the public hearing of the sub-committee, followed by those who have registered themselves with the revenue department officials. Incidentally, the sub-committee was scheduled to hold the meeting in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on January 21, but the meeting was postponed and has since been rescheduled for Tuesday. The other cabinet sub-committee is headed by minister R V Deshpande.
