Gauhati University (GU) will conduct centralized PhD entrance tests for applicants seeking admission in research courses for 2014-2015 session, as per the information given on the official website.

The online application form for the Ph.D admission has begun and the tests are likely to be held in February. There are some changes in the examination pattern and the overall admission process.

Entrance examination Pattern:
Total Marks for the entire test will be of 100 marks the break-up of which will be like
the following:
Common Component for all candidates- OMR based MCQ - 30 marks
Numerical Aptitude - 6 marks
Test of Reasoning - 6 marks
ICT Awareness (basics) - 6 marks
General English - 6 marks
General Awareness - 6 marks
Total - 30 Marks

Subject Specific (OMR based MCQ) - 50
Subject Specific (descriptive-short/long answer type) 20

The MCQs for the 30 and 50 marks components will have four choices and will be of 1mark each.
The Pattern for the subject specific descriptive questions will be-
For subjects of Social Sciences and Humanities
(1 Question of 10 marks and 2 questions of 5 marks each): 10+5+5 = 20 marks
For subjects of Science, Technology and MBA
(4 questions carrying 5 marks each) : 4X5 marks=20 marks
There shall be alternative questions to cover all specialisations. Questions for both the subject specific parts (MCQ and descriptive types) will equally cover all areas of the concerned P.G Syllabus of all specialisations.

Candidate must secure 50% of marks separately in all the parts to qualify for selection for admission. The final selection list will be prepared on the basis of performance in the entrance test and number of vacancies in the departments.

Question Papers:
Three sets of question papers will be collected for the common and subject specific tests and will be moderated.
The Test Booklet will have three sections corresponding to the three types of tests i.e. common and subject specific MCQ and subject specific descriptive type test.

The OMR answer sheet will be used only for the first two components of the test i.e for MCQs.
Separate answer sheet will be used for the subject specific questions.

Marking Scheme:

The evaluation of descriptive type test answer sheet will be conducted centrally in one
place for all subjects.
