Bhopal: 5-yr-old burned for wetting bed

‘Private parts of her minor daughter had been burnt with candle at the shelter home’

Bhopal: A 25-year-old woman caretaker of a government-recognised shelter home was sent to judicial custody on Wednesday after she was booked for allegedly getting private parts of a five-year-old girl burned for bed-wetting by another minor.

“A Dalit woman lodged a complaint on Monday that private parts of her minor daughter had been burnt with candle at the shelter home — Ladli Ashray Grah- after which we investigated the matter,” police said.

After recording the statement of the occupants, and medical examination of the girl, the caretaker Kalavati Singh, 25, was booked under relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act and 324 (voluntary causing hurt) of IPC on Tuesday.

A three-member team comprising Rekha Shridhar, a member of district child welfare committee, Anurag Joshi, district women empowerment officer and Archana Sahay of NGO Childline visited the shelter home on Tuesday evening.

They found that two other inmates of the home too had been meted out the same inhuman treatment by a 10-year-old inmate at the behest of the accused.

Police said that the accused was produced in a court and was sent in judicial custody for 15 days on Wednesday.
