Degree student, boyfriend held on theft charges

A degree student, N. Durga Bhavani and her boyfriend, D. Krishnam Raju, were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly committing thefts in buses in the city.

The Central Crime Station (CCS) police recovered gold ornaments weighing 14 sovereigns, Rs. 41,000 in cash, four tolas of silver jewellery and 11 mobile phones, all worth about Rs. 4 lakh from them. Briefing this to the media on Wednesday, Additional DCP (Crimes) G. Ramakoteswara Rao said Durga Bhavani, a resident of Singh Nagar, befriended Raju, who completed ITI. They decided to rob passengers and lead a lavish life. Durga Bhavani, would travel in buses and steal valuables from women passengers. Later, Raju would sell stolen goods in the market. The CCS police team arrested the duo involved in seven thefts.
