Achievers awarded by Arunai Tamil Sangam

Anu Vennila, a retired teacher, was given the Maraimalai Adigal Award for her service to Tamil language

Eminent persons chosen from different fields were given awards at the belated Pongal festival organised by the Arunai Tamil Sangam on Monday.

Its president and former minister E.V.Velu gave away the awards.

Awards

Anu Vennila, a retired teacher, was given the Maraimalai Adigal Award for her service to the Tamil language; Chengam K.Ezhilarasi was given Dr. Muthulakshmi Award for Social Service.

Sorakolathur Therukkoothu artist D.Devaraj was given the Kalaivanar NSK Award for Service to Arts and Kilnathur K.Shanmugam was given Kirubananda Variyar Award for his spiritual service .

Cash and citation

Each award consisted of a citation and Rs.25,000 in cash. Former minister K.Pichandi, former Municipal Chairman R.Sridharan and a number of of DMK leaders participated.

Team for research

Speaking at the meeting Mr.Velu said that a team had been formed to do research and write a book on the history of Thondai Mandalam. Former Vice-Chancellor M.Rajendran would lead the team.
