It is time for Purnachandra Tejaswi’s fans to rejoice. Those who have enjoyed his landmark novella, Kiragoorina Gayyaligalu , can now look forward to a film adaptation. Sumana Kittur, author of Edegarike , is set to direct Kiragoorina Gayyaligalu .

Interestingly, Suri (popularly known as Duniya Suri) a popular filmmaker, is producing the film.

“Agri Sridhar is writing the screenplay. Achyut Kumar and Shweta Srivatsa will play the leads,” Ms. Kittur told The Hindu .

Last adaptation

Films based on Tejaswi’s works are not new. Kubi Mattu Iyala (1992), directed by Sadananda Suvarna, was the last such film. Tejaswi’s Abachurina Post Office (1973) and Tabarana Kathe (1986) were made into films by noted filmmakers N. Lakshminarayan and Girish Kasaravalli.

Production would begin soon, said Ms. Kittur.

Director’s dream

Making films based on Tejaswi’s works is every ‘creative’ director’s dream. Some time ago, many directors, including cinematographer Sundarnath Suvarna, had planned to make Tejaswi’s Krishne Gowdara Aane . But he died before realising his dream.

Noted filmmaker S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu had announced some time ago about his decision to make Krishne Gowdara Aane .

Yet another director, Kodlu Ramakrishna, planned to make Tejaswi’s Jugari Cross into a film. Attempts were made to make Kiragoorina Gayyaligalu into a film by many directors earlier.
