Tuli Mall a property tax defaulter since 2008
Nagpur: Continuing its drive against those with property tax arrears, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) sealed the popular Jaswant Tuli Inox Mall on Kamptee Road on Wednesday morning. The mall has been a defaulter for a long time. The civic body released the seals only after receiving a part of the dues and an assurance from the mall owners for clearing the arrears.

Harish Raut, assistant commissioner of Ashi Nagar Zone, told TOI that arrears of Rs2.15 crore were due from the mall which is owned by Kapoor Singh Tuli and Mohabbat Singh Tuli. “The arrears were not paid despite notices being issued. We sealed all entrances of the mall,” he said.
Raut added that arrears were pending since 2008. “The owners were paying tax every year but not the full amount. It only increased their arrears with every passing year,” he said.
Deputy municipal commissioner Sanjay Kakade said Rs51 lakh was recovered from the owners in evening. “We have taken post dated cheques of the balance amount which will be encashed by February 25,” he said.
Municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar and Kakade are taking daily review of the recovery of property tax as only two months remain for the current fiscal.
