Watch the Super-Creepy John Du Pont Documentary From 'Foxcatcher'

Real John Du Pont ‘Foxcatcher’ Documentary

Are you a fan of uncomfortably awkward interviews? Do you want to learn more about the real-life delusional scion at the heart of the Oscar-nominated film Foxcatcher? If so, then boy — do we have the video for you!

Bennett Miller’s Oscar-nominated film stars Steve Carell in a career-redefining turn as John Du Pont, the disturbed wannabe-wrestling coach (and lonely millionaire) who houses Olympic athletes on his Pennsylvania estate. At one point in the movie, we see a small team of hired-gun filmmakers shooting a documentary about Du Pont, who gives a cringe-inducing tour of his house; it’s an absurd scene, and gives a real window into his warped psyche, with its delusions of grandeur and misplaced confidence.

It’s also based on a real video that was made for a 1988 charity event at a hospital in Pennsylvania, and the actual footage is even weirder than what we see in Miller’s film. Running 15 uneasy minutes, it is a bizarre infomercial that does not do its subject any favors, despite all efforts to show Du Pont in a positive light.

This is even sadder than Threat Level Midnight.
