Assistant coach of Russian side, FC Anji Makhachkala praised the level of play at the on-going 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Equatorial Guinea.

Speaking to Xinhua in an interview at Hotel Federacciones in the town of Bata, the Tunisian born Adel Sassi admitted that the level of play and tactical awareness in the competition has changed for the better over the years.

"If you compare the Africa Cup 10 years ago to what is on the ground now there is a big difference. I think African players are working a little harder and are more disciplined now," said Sassi who played for Club African in Tunisia several years ago.

Sassi, who was also coach at FC Metellurg Donestk of Russia, said he was very impressed by the standards of the matches. "I will remain in Equatorial Guinea and watch more games because I also want to see which African players we can sign for our club," added Sassi.

Currently the club playing the Russian First Division has two African players; Tidjani Amoadlou Moutoni of Niger and Xanick Boli of Ivory Coast.

The Russian Club was purchased by billionaire Suleyman Kerimov and subsequently made numerous high-profile signings, including those of striker Samuel Eto'o and manager Guus Hiddink.

But following severe budget cuts ahead of the 2013-14 season, the club lost most of its key players and finished bottom of the table, which resulted in relegation to the Russian First Division at the end of the season. But the Club is now top of the First Division and hope to be back in top flight football in the Premier League.

"We are doing well and currently top the table. We are looking at avenues of buying some African players because they work hard and they come at a cheap prize most times," explained Sassi. Endite
