KOLKATA: The Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) swept all 26
Calcutta University colleges that elected students’ unions on Wednesday while CPM students’ wing SFI drew a blank along with the SUCI’s
DSO.
TMCP got a walkover in key colleges like Scottish Church, Surendranath, Vidyasagar, Jaipuria and North City where the opposition student bodies failed to field candidates.
Asutosh College alone proved a minor challenge for TMCP. Here, Chhatra Parishad bagged 10 seats against 92 by TMCP.
While SFI complained of strongarm tactics by TMCP, an upbeat TMCP leader Suhit Shyam said: “It only shows that students still have faith in the good governance of Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee.”
Claims by Shyam, were, however, rejected by DSO member Gopal Singh Mishra, a first-year PG student of Islamic History. He was allegedly beaten up by TMCP supporters on CU’s Alipore campus on Tuesday afternoon. Earlier, DSO won
Jogomaya Devi College election while SFI won the
Victoria College polls.
