SIVAKASI: A worker died after a fire broke out at a match manufacturing unit at Poolavurani in the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday evening.
About seven employees – two men and five women – were working at the Sri Subramanyar Match Works when the fire broke out. Match sticks stored in a room caught fire, and the fire spread to other rooms.

The deceased has been identified as G Thambithurai of Poolavurani. All others managed to escape. A watchman at the unit suffered minor injuries.
Fire tenders from Sivakasi doused the fire.
Deputy superintendent of police C Vellaiyan, who inspected the spot, said the factory owner, S Muniasamy, would be arrested.
“The owner visited the unit after the accident, but he escaped from the spot. We will arrest him shortly,” he said. The Maraneri police registered a case.
