Andrea Pirlo has named his all-time Champions League dream team - and Paul Scholes is the only player to have ever played in the Premier League to make the grade.

Italian legend Pirlo has lifted club football's most coveted trophy twice in his career in 2003 and 2007 with AC Milan, and was part of the Rossoneri side stunned by Liverpool in the 2005 final in Istanbul.

But only one Premier League player made the cut - Manchester United legend Scholes.

"The truly great English midfield player of the generation," he said. "Didn’t just play the game, he thought about the game.

"You could see every pass, every decision, was based on his intelligence and understanding."

Seven of the Juventus man's 11 strong selection are current or former teammates of his, with only Scholes, Xavi, Philipp Lahm and Lionel Messi breaking the mould.
