Pakistan’s former chief justice (CJ) Iftikhar Chaudhry today filed Rs 20 billion defamation case against cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan for allegedly maligning the Supreme Court and accusing him of rigging in the 2013 elections.

The former CJ filed the suit in the court of district and session judge in Islamabad, where judge Nazir Ahmed Gajana ordered the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief to appear before the court on January 29.

Khan have been accusing Chaudhry of being involved in rigging the 2013 general election, which PTI had lost.

A three-member legal team prepared the lawsuit and it will try to prosecute Khan.

Chaudhary accused Khan of maligning the Supreme Court and its ex-chief justice.

Chaudhary had sent a legal notice to Khan last year over defamatory remarks against him but later withdrew it after the PTI chief issued a clarification.
