MANGALURU: The Mangalore city police on Sunday nabbed two men, who allegedly murdered a woman at her rented accommodation in Meenakaliya on January 12. A police team, headed by S Ravikumar, assistant commissioner of police, Mangaluru north division, nabbed the uncle-nephew duo at Surathkal railway station, when they were attempting to flee the city. The accused have been identified as Ajju alias Ajju Pradhan, 23, and Vrundavan Pradan, 38, residents of Golagunda Palli in Ganjam district of Odisha.

The accused were staying in a rented accommodation owned by Narasimha Aithal at Meenakaliya village under Panambur police station limits. Several other migrant labourers, including Rajesh and his wife Kalpana, residents of Madhya Pradesh, were staying in the same building. When the duo got to know that Rajesh was working in the night shift, they forced entry into Kalpana's room. However, she resisted their sexual advances and put up a fight. The men, fearing that she would inform others, slit her throat using a knife. The duo also dropped a boulder on her chest. Kalpana succumbed to injuries on the spot.
The accused later returned to their rooms and went to sleep, pretending to know nothing about the incident. The next day, they left the room. Based on the information given by other migrant workers residing in the same building, police nabbed the accused in the railway station. Their implements were also seized, Vishnuvardhan said.
