Gowda's shed tactic backfires

Stripped of office space in the central part of the city, former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) supremo H D Deve Gowda decided to pitch tent on a vacant piece of land on Race Course Road. “I will put up a shed and function from here,“ the octogenarian declared in full media glare on Tuesday.

But it turned out to be an anti-climax for the JDS when an advocate descended on the spot claiming that the former PM cannot set up office on a litigated land! In fact, Gowda's men had summoned a bulldozer and cleared the area, which is located right behind the building which JD (S) lost to the Congress party, of shrubs in the afternoon. Gowda, who had started his career as a civil contractor before entering politics, supervised the cleaning operation for some time and even suggested the location of the shed from where his party would be head-quartered till they are allotted land for a permanent base.

However, everything turned topsy-turvy when advocate R Rajanna claimed that the 19,200 sq ft plot at survey number 37 in Gandhinagar belonged to the Shivamogga-based Ramalingeshwara mutt.Rajanna said the transfer of khata to the mutt was pending with the BBMP for the last one year.
