A Hot Springs, AR, couple lost custody of their seven children last Monday because of a chemical treatment that the father, Hal Stanley, claims he uses mostly in his garden. The substance, "Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS)", allegedly helps treat cancer and HIV, along with various other diseases, but the FDA has stated that the product "produces an industrial bleach that can cause serious harm to health." The side effects of ingesting this product include severe nausea, vomiting and life-threatening dehydration.

Hal answered a knock on his door last week to find police with a warrant demanding to search his home. While he and his wife, Michelle, remained outside during the investigation, law enforcement found bottles labeled MMS inside. Hal admitted that he has consumed the solution, but he was the only family member to have done so. Meanwhile, each of the kids was taken into an ambulance for a health evaluation, according to KARZ-TV. "Your kids are great. That's what's giving us hope that this thing's just going to be over in a few minutes," one of the agents told Michelle.

Despite the assurance that the children were fine, around 9:30 that evening, Hal said several police officers entered their house. They said, "We're taking the children for 72 hours." Hal demanded to know who made the call to take them into custody, and according to The Blaze, an anonymous officer with the Garland County Sheriff's department allegedly replied, "I did it and I'm proud of the decision." KARZ-TV explained that law enforcement has 72 hours for a judge to sign an emergency order, and after that, five more days to hold the kids before a probable cause hearing determines their fate.

Since the incident, a Facebook page named Bringthestanleykidshome was created. The page mentioned that the family has obtained a local, well-known lawyer for their case. No word yet on if or when the children will return to their parents.
