Three persons belonging to the same family were killed when a Tiruvannamalai-bound private bus from Vellore collided head-on with a car in which they were travelling at Sandhanakottai Melvallam Junction near Kaniyambadi on the Arni Road about 18 km from here on Monday. Twenty-one persons including 20 bus passengers were injured in the accident.
The occupants of the car — hanmugasundaram (65), his wife Gomathiammal (60), son Arumugam (45) and daughter-in-law Thoranammal (40) — belonging to Ettayapuram in Tuticorin district were proceeding to Tirupati. Shanmugasundaram, Arumugam and Thoranammal died on the spot. Gomathiammal and seven of the injured bus passengers were admitted to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital, Adukkamparai. The remaining 13 injured passengers were treated as out-patients.
