National-level music fest in Hubballi from Jan. 30

As many as 30 artistes from across the country, including santoor exponent Shivakumar Sharma, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Shubha Mudgal, Ajay Pohankar, Sanjeev Abhyankar, and Praveen Godkhindi will perform at the Hubballi-Dharwad Sangeet Mahotsava, a three-day national-level music festival, to be held here from January 30.

Conveners of the Hubballi-Dharwad Sangeet Mahotsava Samiti Vinay Nayak and Mahesh Hangal said in a release that the event would be held at Junior Technical School Grounds in Vidyanagar, Hubballi.

The inaugural day programme would begin at 3.46 p.m. with the performance of Ms. Mudgal followed by a ‘jugalbandi’ by sitar exponent Aranyakumar from Dharwad and vocalist Raghunandan Bhat from Bengaluru.

It will be followed by a vocal recital by Pandit Venkateshkumar and a performance by sitar exponent Ustad Shahid Parvez from Pune.

Mr. Godkhindi will begin the second day performance on Saturday at 3.46 p.m. It will be followed by a tabla solo performance by Pt. Yogesh Tamsi of Mumbai, and vocal recitals by Mr. Pohankar and Mr. Abhyankar.

According to the release, Dr. Gangubai Hangal Lifetime Achievement Award will be conferred on Mr. Sharma on the third day.

The music programmes on February 1 will be held from 7.46 a.m. to 11.45 a.m. and subsequently from 3.46 p.m. Mr. Bhatt, vocalists Ashwini Bhide of Mumbai, Ustad Rashid Khan of Kolkata and flautist Aditya Joshi of Hubballi will perform on the concluding day.

The Department of Kannada and Culture and other organisations and firms have extended assistance to the samiti in organising the event.
