Over one hundred students and residents of Ariyaperumalvilai Colony thronged the Collectorate here on Monday to submit a petition, seeking restoration of a town bus service.

The service, route 36 B, used to be operated from Ariyaperumalvilai Colony to Nagercoil in the last eight years, for the benefit of 240 families.

But it was suspended abruptly, affecting students and commuters.

The residents alleged that in spite of several petitions, the service was not revived by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, though it briefly ran it on alternate days after a memorandum was submitted to the General Manager on October 15.

They demanded the immediate restoration of the town bus as a daily service.

The residents were led by the office-bearers of Ariyaperumalvilai Colony Residents’ Welfare Association, and N. Suresh Rajan, DMK district secretary.
