CM flags off 2,387 vehicles for State police

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu flagged off new vehicles for Andhra Pradesh police at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium here on Monday. In all, 2,387 vehicles, including two, three, four and six-wheelers and a few ambulances, were added to police fleet in the State.

Later, speaking to media persons later Director General of Police J.V. Ramudu said government purchased the new vehicles at a cost of Rs.100 croreand they would be distributed to all districts as per requirement.

“Some special purpose vehicles, interceptors, vehicles for clues and finger printing teams and transportation were purchased and they will be used for patrolling on highways and in cities and towns. A few vehicles would be equipped with bullet-proof facility, which are used for VIP convoys and anti-Naxal operations,” said Mr. Ramudu

“The purpose of introducing new vehicles is to increase mobility, better use of technology and transparency. Very soon cameras would be installed at all police stations to ensure transparency”, said Mr. Ramudu.

The new vehicles would be used for controlling rash and negligent and drunken driving thereby save the lives during accidents on highways, the DGP added.

Earlier, police handed over a cheque for Rs 8.13 crore to Mr. Naidu towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for Hudhud cyclone victims.

Deputy Chief Minister N. China Rajappa, Union Minister Y.S. Chaudary, Ministers Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, P. Narayana, Kamineni Srinivas, and Kollu Ravindra, MPs, MLAs and officers of various departments were present.
