State Transport Minister Sidda Raghava Rao on Monday sought the cooperation of road users in achieving the government’s ambitious target of ‘zero accident’.

Flagging off a massive rally to educate people on the theme ‘safety always for all roads’ from the DRRM High School on Monday night, he said that a 138-km corridor road would be laid in Kadapa district with an expenditure of Rs. 130 crore. The aim of the government to aware people that ‘zero mishap was very much feasible’, he said.

Allaying fears of vehicle owners over linking of Aadhaar cards to their vehicle details, he said: “The purpose of the exercise is to ensure safety and security of vehicles and their owners and not to deny benefits of welfare schemes to those owning many vehicles.”

Taking a serious note of the Madakasira mishap in Anantapur district, which claimed 16 lives, he said that all RTC depots would be equipped with breath analysers to ensure safe travel for the 54 lakh passengers who travel by State-owned buses every day.

Transport Joint Commissioner S.A.V.Prasad said that 18 lakh persons had volunteered with information to seed their Aadhaar cards. “Such vehicle owners will get alerts on their mobile phones periodically on fitness of their vehicles, expiry of their driving licence and other announcements by the department,” he added.

Spy cameras would be installed in selected cities to curb overspeeding of vehicles, he said, adding that according to law, no vehicle should cross 100 km speed though their vehicles and roads were designed for travel beyond that speed limit.
