Three days after three city BJP MLAs decided to boycott Vadfest, the district party leaders in Vadodara are feeling ā€œsnubbedā€ because they did not get invitations for the cultural festival, the pre-events for which were kicked-off by Saurabh Patel, state minister for finance, power and tourism, last week.

Senior party leaders, headed by state Cabinet Minister Jaydhratsinh Parmar, met to resolve the issue, late Sunday evening. Office bearers of BJPā€™s Vadodara district wing met at the circuit house in Alkapuri to express their disappointment at being ā€œsidelinedā€ from the upcoming Vadfest ā€” including the pre-event. The meeting saw Vadodara district MLAs and BJP office bearers complaining about not being invited to the festival or being involved in planning. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Vadfest Committee, who sought a list of ā€œoffice bearersā€ of the BJP district in order to include them in the list of invitees for the events between January 23-26, according to party leaders.

District party leader Satish Patel said, ā€œThe meeting was called as all district leaders were feeling slighted about being ignored. All of us are residents of Vadodara and this being an event of such a large scale, supported by the state government, not extending an invite to the office bearers and elected representatives is very insulting. We expressed our grievance with Jaydhratsinh Parmar and the Vadfest representatives who noted down names of dignitaries from the district. Cabinet Minister Saurabh Patel had also sent his PA to the meeting to ensure that the list of party leaders from the district is furnished to the committee.ā€

However, district MLAs are displeased that ā€œelected representativesā€ were ignored. Balkrishna Patel, MLA Dabhoi, said, ā€œWe are not opposed to the event. Although they should have at least involved us in the planning stage so that we could have highlighted some things, we do not have grudges that they did not. But not even acknowledging the elected representatives is not acceptable.ā€
