Woman taken to the hospital after Nashua fire
One person is dead and another in the hospital after an early-morning fire in Nashua.Firefighters were first called to the home on Waltham Drive at about 1:50 a.m. for a Life Alarm activation. When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the home and fire in the kitchen area in the back of the building.Firefighters quickly put the fire out, but found a man, believed to be in his 70's, dead in the kitchen. They also found a woman in a rear bedroom who was not able to walk on her own. Firefighters said the bedroom was filled with smoke.The woman was taken to Southern New Hampshire Hospital where she was treated for smoke inhalation and was listed in stable condition Monday morning.Firefighters also rescued a cat from the home.The victims' names have not been released.The fire was contained to the kitchen, but the exact cause was still under investigation early Monday morning. Members of the State Fire Marshal's office were on scene along with members of the Nashua Fire Marshal's Office, Nashua Police Department and the medical examiner's office.Firefighters said black ice on the roads made for a difficult response to the scene because the roads were very slippery.
