'Districts with high enrolments in private schools have high learning levels'
JAIPUR: Jhunjhunu has the highest percentage of students in private schools. This town in Shekhawati region has 70.1% of students in private schools followed by Jaipur with 66.6% students. In fact, students across the state now mostly prefer private schools over government ones, says annual status of education report (ASER) survey, tabled recently.
The Shekhawati region stands above all in terms of private school enrolments.
Churu and Sikar have comparatively higher percentage of students in private schools with 66.2% and 54.5%, respectively. Explaining the reasons, K B Kothari, managing trustee of Pratham, an NGO, said, “This region had government schools that functioned poorly, paving the way for private schools to come up. Secondly, this region has seen several business families who have opened educational institutes here.”
The highest number of drop outs in the age group of 6-14 years was registered from Jaisalmer district followed by Bhilwara with 9.7%, Udaipur with 8.1%, Jalore with 9%, Banswara with 7.9, Sirohi with 7.5% and Rajsamand with 7%. All these districts have less than the state average of enrollments in private schools. The districts are listed in the red zone as the drop outs here is also above the national average.
Districts with high enrolments in private schools have comparatively high learning levels. Jhunjhunu and Churu are only two districts which have over 50% students in standard III-V who can do subtraction. Jaipur’s only 43% students can do subtraction. Even in learning levels – reading and comprehension the over performance of Shekawati region is far better than rest of the state.
Here also the worst performance has come from tribal region — Udaipur, Dungarpur and Banswara.
