PANAJI: BJP's Goa unit will hold a 'Chintan Baithak' today to review the performance of its government led by Laxmikant Parsekar and decide strategy for the 2017 state Assembly polls.
The meeting, which would be chaired by BJP's Goa unit president Vinay Tendulkar, will be attended by all the party legislators and Chief Minister Parsekar.

"The meeting will be held overnight and it will get over tomorrow afternoon. We will be having extensive discussions on various issues," a senior legislator said.

Union Defence Minister and former state Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is in Goa to participate in a function of Indian Coast Guard, is also expected to attend the meeting briefly.

The BJP has kept the meeting's agenda under wraps, but it is understood that the party will also take stock of its existing alliance with Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP).

Several BJP leaders have been demanding to break ties with MGP as the party has 20 legislators in the Assembly, enough for the government to survive on its own.

When contacted, Tendulkar said that several issues related to the government would be discussed in the meeting.

"It is an internal meeting. We will also discuss strengthening the party and taking up membership drive," he said.

The meeting is significant as it is happening for the first time after Parsekar took over as the Chief Minister.

"There will be review of developmental works done in various constituencies. Discussions would be held to point out shortcomings and strengths of the government," another BJP MLA said.

There would be a brain-storming discussion which will help the party to decide its future political course, he said.
