LAHORE: Four-year-old bay colt My Guest lived up to his tag of favourite while powering to victory in the feature event during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

Owned by Makhdum Syed Ahmad Mahmud, the colt was guided by jockey M. Jameel to score a one length success over colt Sparks in the term race for four-year-old thoroughbred and half-bred colts and fillies that was contested over 1,800 metres.

The other competitors slithered pathetically to finish far behind by a street’s margin of distance. Filly Hidden Galaxy took third position with another filly Dunya Dubai, a close fourth.

My Guest, ridden by Shahid Rehman, was beaten by Sparks by half-a-length a fortnight back under the same handicap over 1,600 metres but the increase in race distance and the change of jockey made the difference.

The supporting event, the Fair Magic Plate for class five run over 1,200 metres was won by bay colt Edgar, owned by Zaheer Aslam. Trained by leading trainer Tauqir Ahmed, Edgar was partnered by Javed Iqbal from start to finish while returning a smart timing of one minute 14 2/5 seconds.

This was Edgar’s fourth success in a row in eight outings.

Tauqir later registered a well-deserved double by sending out chestnut colt Spartan, jointly owned by M. Jameel Asghar and Najeeb Haider Bagri, to win the second supporting event the Ceasar Plate for class VI over 1,200 metres. Tauqir now is well ahead in the trainers’ statistics table with 31 wins to his credit.

Trainer A.B. Malik also sent out two winners — Peacock in the third race and Sweet Ruby in the ninth race. Rider boy S. Raza and jockey A. Raza rode home two winners each.

Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards handed down strong punishments to two riders for doubtful handling of their mounts in the second race-rider Mubashir Bhatti was stood down for three months and fined Rs25,000 on Jammu Queen and Khalil Vicky was warned off one month along with a fine of Rs25,000 on Lucky Game.
