The Karnataka State Minorities Development Corporation will pay the fee of students belonging to minority communities and seeking admission to professional courses through the common entrance test conducted by the State government. The corporation has begun enrolment of students seeking this benefit and 190 students from Hassan district enrolled their names for it in Hassan on Sunday.
Chairman of the corporation Masood Faujdar told presspersons here that the scheme titled ‘Arivu’ was launched last year. As it was the first year, many students were unaware of the scheme. However, the corporation passed on the benefit to 2,135 students last year. This year, it had set a target of reaching the scheme to 5,000 students. “We will pay the fee on behalf of students at the time of admission. The corporation will bear the fee for the entire course.
Service charges
The beneficiaries, after completing the course, will have to pay service charges of only 2 per cent of the total fee paid,” he said.
All students of minority communities from families having an annual income of less than Rs. 4.5 lakh can avail themselves of the benefit of the scheme.
Mr. Faujdar said the corporation conducted a programme to spread awareness among students about the Arivu scheme in the city.
