Tamil Naidu Governor K. Rosaiah on Sunday presented the Spoorthi Awards instituted by Bommidala Srikrishnamurthy Foundation to Anne Ferrer, co-founder of Rural Development Trust, Anantapur, Kalipatnam Rama Rao (literature), Adaharavarupu Tejovathy (Education) and G. Narasimharaju Yadav (Agriculture).
Each recipient was presented with Rs.3 lakh, a citation and memento.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rosaiah lauded the efforts of Mr. Krishnamurthy in recognising people who had contributed significantly in the fields of social service, education, literature and agriculture. Minister for Agriculture Prathipati Pulla Rao, MLCs K.S Lakshmana Rao and N. Rajakumari, Chairman of Tobacco Board, Koothati Gopal were present.
Responding to the honour, Ms. Ferrer said that eradication of poverty has been a truth in their lives and not just a dream. “Working closely with people constantly has helped to address extreme poverty in the most backward region of the State. When everybody contributes with small actions, the world will become a better place,’’ Ms. Ferrer said.
Kalipatnam Rama Rao reminded that he has a long association with Guntur and said that the town had always patronised writers.
Dr. Tejovathy recollected the efforts to revive Saradaniketanam Oriental Degree College and urged the State government to allot more faculty members to the institute. The institution, established in 1921 by Unnana Lakshminarayana and his wife, continues to be a beacon of hope for many girls to pursue higher education. With the support of many philanthropists, she could construct library buildings and additional classrooms, she said.
G. Narasimha Raju Yadav, an award winning progressive farmer, underlined the importance of agriculture in the economy and urged the government to provide support to organic farming.
Foundation chairman Bommidala Srikrishna Murthy said that all the four people have been nominated by the jury members headed by retired chief justice of Allahabad High Court, Ambati Lakshmana Rao.
