Gray boxes of the Reveal for Men fragrance dotted the gray metal benches at the Calvin Klein show, including one designated for “Sons of Anarchy” stud Charlie Hunnam, who smoldered for the photographers in his gray suit.
“Different shades of gray,” men’s creative director Italo Zucchelli said backstage of his fall collection, calling the shade “very Calvin Klein.” True — but all those shades of gray added up to a rather lackluster show.
Zucchelli tried to pep up the collection with embossed leopard and cheetah patterns, the gray spots crawling over overcoats, blazers, stadium coats, parkas and lean trousers. Speckled tweeds, resembling black-and-white TV static, were also convincing.
The outerwear shapes, especially oversize double-breasted overcoats, exuded a masculine swagger, as did the strong-shouldered suits. Not so the glossy, cropped perfectos, while mom jeans in gray vinyl looked as unappealing as they sound.
