KADAPA: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu asked people here to strengthen the BJP in Andhra Pradesh to solve the problems of the state.

He alleged that the Congress party "ruined the nation, destroyed the administration and degraded the judiciary", with many uncountable scams like coal scam, Commonwealth Games scam, 2G spectrum scam and Agusta Westland Helicopters scam.

Addressing a huge gathering at Kadapa Municipal Stadium this afternoon, Naidu lambasted the Congress, saying, "The Congress and its infant YSR Congress are similar when it comes to scams" and urged the people "not to believe" these parties.

He said "only the BJP under Prime Minister Modi" would resolve issues of the people and develop the country. He urged people and party workers to strengthen the BJP in the state, which is an ally of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Naidu said that the Polavaram project, which has been taken up as a national project by BJP, is a boon to Rayalaseema.

"After catering to Visakhapatnam's drinking water needs and stabilising Krishna Delta, Polavaram's surplus water will be supplied to Rayalaseema to cater to drinking and irrigation needs of this region," he said.

When asked about the proposed steel industry in Kadapa, Venkaiah said that officials are considering all probabilities and would come out with a decision soon.

However, he said that a proposed Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) project in Kadapa is not viable due to the airport. He said that after considering all parameters, it would be be established in Rayalaseema.

"Suitable industries will be established in suitable places in the region," he said.

He announced that the foundation stone for an Indian Institute of Information Technology would be be laid in Tirupati soon.
