LABUAN: Labuan's deepwater port, which is equipped with advanced information technology, has attracted cargo from various sectors to the island, Member of Parliament for Labuan Datuk Rozman Isli said. "The port along with other development packages help boost the island's growth. We are optimistic that these factors will help drive the island to be a more commercial and vibrant Federal Territory," he said at the Labuan Education Department's new year address, here, Saturday.

Rozman, who is also Labuan Corporation Chairman, said the island has the potential of becoming a premier education, business, oil and gas and financial hub with the Federal Government's support.

"We have all the ingredients in becoming a developing and industrialised Federal Territory, generating revenue to the country's coffer," he said.

Earlier, he said the Education Development Plan and the establishment of the Labuan Education Foundation would further enhance the island's image regionally.

"However, we must be prepared to equip ourselves with necessary skills and know-how to realise our economic development vision. Human capital development is crucial in meeting rising demand for skilled workforce," he said.

Rozman congratulated Labuan teachers for the good examination results in 2014 and reminded them to continue to assist the Government in ensuring an effective and efficient education system.

"There is no easy recipe for a good efficient system, but a highly professional teaching force, with proven methods, techniques and strategies, are a good starting point in producing excellent academic results," he said.
