Premiere of Dera Saccha Sauda chief Baba Ram Rahim Singh’s film “MSG-The Messenger of God” at Leisure Valley ground here on Friday was cancelled at the eleventh hour due to incomplete paperwork.

The premiere of the controversial film was slated at Leisure Valley ground in Sector 29 here in the afternoon following which a large number of Dera Saccha Sauda followers had started gathering at the venue since morning.

Ram Rahim, who was also present at the venue, announced the cancellation of the film premiere saying that some formalities were required to be completed. He added that new dates of the premiere and release would be decided soon. The film was earlier slated to be released on January 23.

On the controversy surrounding the film, Ram Rahim said that the film was about his fight against the drug-mafia and there was nothing controversial about its plot. Replying to another question, the godman said he was also mulling on a sequel to the film.

Earlier, several hundred workers of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Indian National Students’ Organisation gathered near the venue raising slogans against the controversial godman and his film. To prevent any clash, the police took over 60 workers, mostly office-bearers of the party and its students’ wing, in custody.

INLD spokesperson Dalbir Dhankar said: “The Dera chief faces several criminal cases including murder and castration. He is trying to project himself as God through this film misleading his followers and the masses. Even the censor board members have resigned in protest against the nod given to the film. We will not allow the release of his film in Haryana.”
