Urdu in school: Muslim leaders criticise Baig

January 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:06 am IST - Bidar:

Minister for Hajj, Infrastructure and Information Roshan Baig’s alleged statements against Urdu school have come under fire from some Muslim leaders and Urdu organisations.

At a meeting in Raina Royal Public School here on Saturday, former MLA M. Laiquddin, said the Minister had urged members of Muslim community to prefer English Medium Schools over Urdu schools.

Equating Urdu to backwardness and English to prosperity was wrong, he said. “Such betrayals of Urdu from minority leaders will not be tolerated,” he said. He saw a deep-rooted conspiracy behind such statements. “We will oppose any attempts to scuttle Urdu. We will take the issue to the Chief Minister and Governor,” Mr. Laiquddin said.
