NOIDA: The transport department has warned all Noida schools of strict action if buses are found violating safety norms, during surprise checks that will soon to be conducted by the officials.
The regional transport office had recently called a meeting with school representatives, transport union members and the sub-divisional magistrate to discuss safety of students on school buses.
Rachna Yaduvanshi, ARTO, said, "Schools have now re-opened after the winter break and we will conduct drives to check if rules are being followed by them."
School staff said they have already taken several measures to improve students' safety. Officials of Somerville School said drivers and conductors are regularly counseled and checked for alcohol. "We randomly conduct breath analysis. It has made the drivers more responsible," an official said.
Transport union officials said the situation has improved from before due to strict enforcement of rules, but more efforts are required as accidents continue to take place.
