J&K: Constable shot dead

He was driver of a sitting legislator, in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Suspected militants shot dead a J&K policeman, who was driver of a sitting legislator, in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday morning. A civilian was also injured in the attack.

Zahoor Ahmad, a police constable and driver of recently-elected National Conference MLA Abdul Majeed, was attacked near Redwani Bala area in the district early Saturday morning. “Unidentified militants fired at Ahmad Saturday morning. Ahmad died on the spot, while one motorcyclist, Zahoor Ahmad Allie, was also injured in this incident,” said SP Manoj Kumar Pandita. “Allie was shifted to the hospital for treatment.”

Mumtaz Ahmad, SP Kulgam, said that the constable was attacked on his way to the house of the legislator. Ahmad, son of a sarpanch, is survived by his wife and two children. Majeed told The Indian Express that Ahmad used to go home everyday after performing his duties.
“He was my driver since last six years,” Majeed added. Meanwhile, the police has registered a case.
