Colourful rangoli patterns made with a variety of materials like flower petals and dry rice are seen everywhere this Sankranti season in Nellore city what with the residential associations, people’s representatives and organisations conducting such events on a large-scale.
Women employees, housewives and girl students took active part in the rangoli competitions which were held at various levels in residential localities and also at big college grounds and the stadiums. The district administration conducted the ‘rangavalli’ shows at the sprawling AC Stadium where large numbers of women arrived from different parts of the city to show their skill in drawing impressive and colourful patterns on the ground.
District Collector M. Janaki, Additional Joint Collector R.S. Rajkumar and other officials visited various venues where the Sankranti Sambaralu were officially celebrated by conducting competitions and shows like the rangoli patterns. Mayor Sk. Abdul Aziz and several corporators organised the ‘rangavallulu’ competitions at the VRC College Grounds recently in which a large number of women participated and won prizes.
As a mark of upholding the culture and traditions, people’s representatives took special measures to encourage higher participation of the festival enthusiasts. Everywhere, the front yards and roads were marked with patterns made with coloured rice and flower petals.
Raw sugarcane stems were sold at different locations all over the district following the traditional demand for the same at the time of Sankranti season.
People arrived from different from other places to visit their family members and spend the festival occasion with them at their native places here.
