A family who lost everything in a fire on Diwali day last year received a timely assistance from the from Yaadein Vision Australia on Wednesday.

International director Bobby Mishra was in the country to handover the cheque of $14,020.25 to Vodafone Fiji head of e-Commerce and corporate affairs Shailendra Prasad who had requested the assistance on behalf of the Naicker family of Tabucola, Labasa.

Mr Prasad said it was just a humane act as he could feel the pain and loss of what the family went through when he read the tragic news in the newspapers.

“I visited the family and made my own little personal contribution but thought I could do a little more.”

He said having lost his own family home completely in a tragic fire eight years ago had brought back memories of despair and struggle to rebuild their home.

“We lost everything in that fire and whilst we were able to rebuild the house, we had lost forever years of family memories kept in pictures and other sentimental and irreplaceable items.”

He said Mr Naicker was one of the first to come forward to assist them and he was glad that he had been able to stand up for him in his hour of need.

Jitendra Naicker said he lost his three- bedroom home and the entire household belongings but he was surprised, relieved and thankful for the timely assistance.

“The assistance is God-sent and I thank them for their most generous help in our time of need,” Mr Naicker said.

“The school starts next week and I have been struggling to organise all my children’s school needs.

“As long as there are generous people like those behind Yaadein Vision there is hope for people like us who are victims of unfortunate turn of events.”

Mr Mishra said they were saddened and moved to hear about their sad loss.

Fortunately, he said no one was injured in the incident.

Mr Mishra said such assistance helped them renew their bond and maintain close ties with the Fijian people.
