NASHIK: The city police in collaboration with a private firm launched a mobile application - 'Eyewatch' - at the office of the commissioner of police on Friday.
The application functions as an advanced emergency response system and can be downloaded on all smart phones. At the press of a button, the application sends an alert on the location monitor of the police control room, which prompts the cops to take necessary action.
The application helps citizens contact the police immediately, along with audio and video situational information. The app can be used to register incidents of robbery, accident, stalking, domestic violence, eve-teasing, unruly mob, road rage, security threat, medical emergency, sexual harassment, among others.
The app accesses the user's phonebook for emergency contacts. In case of no network, the app auto detects the nearest network to send the SOS alert and data to the server. The police can then direct the mobile van to the user's location for assistance.
The app has been designed by Indianeye Security Pvt Ltd and the project was launched for the public as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity. Hemant Shivadasani from the firm said that the application was in use in Gurgaon, Kolkata and a few more cities in the country. It is being launched in Maharashtra for the first time.
The application has geo coded the entire city. Commissioner of police, Kulwant Kumar Sarangal said that the success of the project depended on the number of people who download the application.

The project has been launched on an experimental basis and will also be implemented in rural areas soon. MP Hemant Godse, DCP Sandeep Diwan, DCP Nisar Tamboli and ACP Pankaj Dahane were present for the event.
Making use of the technology available at hand, the city police in collaboration with a private firm launched a mobile application 'Eyewatch' an advance emergency response system.
The Eyewatch application can be downloaded on smart phones, i Phones etc can be used for an emergency response system. With the press of a button of this application, an alert on the location monitor of the police control room is raised, which prompts the police to take the necessary action.
The application helps citizens connect with the police immediately, along with audio and video situational evidence. The application can be used in situations of robbery, accident, stalking, domestic violence, eve-teasing, unruly mob, road-rage, security threat, medical emergency, sexual harassment, etc.
The user's pre-defined contacts are registered to be contacted at the time of any emergency, in case of no network, the application activates alert locally and auto detects the nearest network to send SOS alert and data to the server. The police can then direct the mobile van to the user's location for assistance.
The application has been designed by Indianeye Security Pvt Ltd and the project has been launched for the public under the CSR activity. Hemant Shivadasani of Indian Eye security said that currently the application is being used by the residents of Gurgaon, Kolkata and a few more cities in the country. It is launched in Maharashtra for the first time.
The entire city has been geo-coded by this application. Commissioner of Police Kulwant Kumar Sarangal said that the success of the project depends on the number of people who downloaded the application. The Police works on information. The sooner the police gets the information, the easier it becomes for them to reach to the criminals and get the clues.
The project is on experimental basis and will also be implemented in the rural areas of the city in the future. MP Hemant Godse, DCP Sandeep Diwan, DCP Nisar Tamboli, ACP Pankaj Dahane were present at the launch.
