PANAJI: The national students’ union of India (NSUI), the Congress party’s students’ body, on Friday launched a membership drive that will be followed by organizational elections.
Briefing mediapersons at Congress House, NSUI central emissary Manthan Dinesh Pathak declared that the NSUI body in Goa stands dissolved with immediate effect and the NSUI state president Gitesh Khandekar is relieved from his post.
Pathak said that the NSUI in Goa is launching a month-long membership drive from January 16, after which elections will be held to constitute committees at the college level, district level, state level and national level.

He added that there will be 27% reservations for women and those belonging to scheduled caste and scheduled tribes at every level of elections. Only those pursuing a regular course and are below the age of 27 years are eligible for elections.
In addition to regular colleges, NSUI has decided to also include diploma, B Ed and D Ed colleges in the election process, Pathak said.
NSUI national president Roji John and NSUI national secretary in-charge of Goa, Amir Javed will soon visit the state to deliberate on local organizational matters, said Hasiba Amin, NSUI national secretary
