JAIPUR: The urban development and housing (UDH) minister Rajpal Singh Shekhawat on Friday sought explanation from the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) engineers over poor construction quality of roads in the city.
Shekhawat expressed annoyance over the engineers' casual approach in testing the quality of road construction material during a review meeting at the JDA.

The minister demanded a report on quality tests conducted by JDA engineers and actions taken against the guilty contractors. Recently, the Lokayukta has issued a showcase notice to the Jaipur development commissioner (JDC) seeking an explanation on damaged roads at JLN Marg and Tonk road within the defect liability period.
It was witnessed on both these roads the bituminous concrete was uprooted from the surface within three years, before the defect liability period could be completed.
For the first time since the BJP was elected to office in December 2013, state UDH minister, took stock of the ongoing projects. The JDC gave a presentation on these projects.
Other than this, the minister has directed to make all the agendas and decision of the JDA meetings online to make the system transparent for the common man. "With this more and more people can connect with the JDA. People will also not be duped by others if the system is transparent," said the minister.

Minister announced that sector plans will be reviewed with an aim of comprehensive development in the city and prompt decisions will be taken to make amendments, if required. "Through various means of communication, we will advertise the proposed sector plans to educate residents," added the minister.
Directions to the JDA official were also given to conduct a proper survey before preparing the sector plan, in order to make less amendments in the draft.
The minister has also hinted that the aliments of the sector roads will be changed in the densely populated areas. The JDA will conduct a review these sector roads.
The minister also expressed that JDA should reduce the prices of houses constructed for the slum dwellers.
