Five years in jail for murder bid

GURGAON: A 28-year-old tempo driver has been given a five-year jail term by a city court for trying to kill a security guard by landing multiple blows on his head with a wooden stick, causing a short-term memory loss disorder in the victim.
Balram Singh, the accused, was found guilty of attempt to murder after a 16-month trial and the court also levied a fine of Rs 2,000 onhim. The file of the victim, Hitender, has been forwarded to the district legal services authority for a suitable compensation.

Singh had attacked Hitender, who works as a guard at a buiding near Bristol Chowk, on September 24, 2013, and a police constable, Sunil Kumar, was an eyewitness to the incident. Singh was arrested the next day and police said the blows were strong enough to kill the victim.
Public prosecutor Anurag Hooda said, "In the last 16 months, we have failed to record the victim's statement as he developed serious neurological disorders." He would have certainly died had the eyewitness, Sunil Kumar, not intervened in time, Hooda said.
The forensic evidence was strong enough to prosecute Singh, he added. The stick that was used for the attack was stained with blood, according to a forensic science laboratory (FSL) report.
