Chandigarh Administrator Shivraj V Patil on Thursday inaugurated 200 kWp Grid tied Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant on 22 Huts (Porta cabins) at IRB Complex, Sarangpur, in the presence of Adviser to the Administrator, Vijay Dev and Home secretary Anurag Aggarwal, and other senior officials.
He said that that balance rooftop/huts should be covered in phase II so that this IRB campus can act as role model for other people to see how beautiful it is besides generating Renewable Energy.
He called upon media to create awareness about use of solar power by installation of rooftop solar plant on their houses and expressed the hope that after new tariff announced by JERC for Goa and UT, more people in private sector will be attracted towards Solar Energy. He said that solar power is the ultimate source of energy which the mankind can harness through technology & innovations.
Santosh Kumar, Director (Science & Technology) informed that the 200 kWp Grid tied Rooftop SPV Power Plant Project has been implemented by CREST (Chandigarh Renewal Energy, Science & Technology Promotion Society) through M/s Punj Lloyd Delta Renewables Pvt. Ltd., Gurgaon which is the contracting firm.
The total cost of the project is Rs 2.15 crore which includes operation and maintenance charge for 10 years.
This Solar power plant shall be able to generate more than 2.60 lac units of electricity per annum. This is Phase-I of the Project and another Phase-2 of the project (on 30 huts) of the capacity of 300 kWp is being planned and is to be executed within one year, he said
aIn Sarangpur, the entire campus will be covered with solar panels and will export excess solar energy to the grid after meeting its daily requirement.
Similarly, in another function, 60 kWp Grid tied Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant at GMSSS-16D was inaugurated by Vijay Dev, Adviser to the Administrator.
On this occasion, Vijay Dev said that Chandigarh will install Rooftop Grid tied SPV Power Plants on 35 government buildings this year and other schools and colleges wll be be covered soon.
