20-year-old woman ends life after dad’s death

KOLHAPUR: Three days after death of her father due to cardiac arrest, a 20-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to the police, the woman jumped from the Shivaji bridge over Panchganga river but fell on the cement bed of an under-construction bridge nearby.
The Karveer police suspect that the woman, Madhuri Sadashiv Jadhav of Tembe road, Ravivar peth, was under depression after the death of her father and took the extreme step.
The police said, Madhuri woke up around 4am and left her home when her mother and younger brother were asleep.
When her mother woke up, she found Madhuri missing and the house locked from outside. With the help of neighbours she managed to come out of the house and found that Madhuri had gone on her moped.
A search was launched soon and the moped was found parked on a road leading to Panchganga river.
Later, her stole was found on Shivaji bridge. The body was found lying below the bridge, where construction of another bridge has been going on.
Inspector Dayanad Dome, in charge of Karveer police station said, "Primary investigations reveal that Madhuri tried to jump into the river from Shivaji bridge but fell on the cement bed where construction of the new bridge was going on. As per the information provided by Madhuri’s relatives, her father was affected with paralysis and died on January 13 due to heart attack. Since then Madhuri was under depression. She had completed her school education and was supporting her family by working in a private firm."
"We are awaiting the post-mortem report to find the exact cause of death and will investigate the case in detail after getting report," he added.
