FB photo of Hanuman on Charminar raises tempers

The morphed photograph which was posted by a Hyderabad police constable, has created tension in the old city area.

A morphed photograph of a Hindu god standing over Charminar, which was posted on Facebook by a Hyderabad police constable, has created tension in the old city area.

Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) has lodged a complaint with the city Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy saying that a police constable posted a highly objectionable photograph on his Facebook page on January 11. “The picture posted by him shows Hanuman standing on the historic Charminar,” the complaint said.

The text with the photograph, according to the complaint, read: “Dear all friends good morning have a lovely, cool Sunday RAM LAXMAN JANKI JAI BOLO HANUMAAN JI KI JAI”.

The photoshopped image showed that each minaret of the structure has “Om” written over it and the height of Bhagyalaxmi Temple beside Charminar has been raised up to the first floor of the monument.

“Saffron flags have been shown around the monument,” the complaint filed by former municipal councillor Amjed Ullah Khan stated.

Festive offer

“This picture is highly objectionable and has been aimed at inciting communal hatred in Telangana. Charminar houses a mosque on its second floor called as ‘Masjid-e-Charminar’ and the monument has the symbol of ‘Panjatan-e-Pak’ at several places, the complainant said.

A similar photograph of Charminar showing Ganesh on top of the monument had triggered communal clashes in the past.
