Gurgaon police reopen Belgaum death

The incident took place on January 5 last year.

A year after a Gurgaon resident was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Belgaum, Karnataka, the Gurgaon police issued orders to file a zero FIR and said the case must be investigated further.

The incident took place on January 5 last year. The deceased, Manish Gupta (30), along with his cousin and three business partners had gone to Belgaum to close a land deal. Manish’s cousin Gaurav alias Kinnu informed Manish’s parents that he was not in the train back to Gurgaon.

Manish’s body was later found mutilated near the railway track at Belgaum junction. However, the Karnataka police had declared it an “accidental death”.

However in a letter to the Gurgaon police commissioner, Manish’s father Ved Prakash Gupta alleged that his son was murdered by his business partners due to a major fallout between them in December 2013 over property issues.

“There was no reason for my son to commit suicide. Also, if it was an accident how was the body found at a place where the train was not scheduled to stop,” Ved Prakash said. He also alleged that the family got the autopsy report five months after the incident.

Festive offer

In an attempt to seek justice for his son, Ved Prakash had written to the chief ministers of Haryana and Karnataka, the Karnataka Police and railway authorities to investigate his son’s death.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sangeeta Kalia, the zero FIR had been ordered after preliminary investigation and inquiry was completed. “Manish’s father had come to us. After the necessary fact-checking and inquiry, we found the details to be accurate. A zero FIR was then registered,” the DCP said.

Police also said a copy of the FIR has been sent to the Belgaum Police. “We will be sending a report soon to the concerned police under whose jurisdiction the incident took place. It will then be investigated further,” Kalia said.
