PIFF comes to an end, Behavior gets best international film award

Vinod Tawde said he hoped that Marathi cinema would be promoted here.

State Cultural Minister Vinod Tawde assured that facilities like hassle-free permission for shooting, as demanded by filmmakers, would be available soon. Committing to provide world-class infrastructure at the Film City, Tawde also said he hoped that Marathi cinema would be promoted here. Meanwhile, the minister displayed his prowess in cinema when he pointed out a mistake in the audio-visual presentation on Anandji Shah, the recipient of S D Burman International Award for creative sound and music.

Veteran music director Anandji Shah of the Kalyanji-Anandji musical duo proved beyond doubt that at 83 years of age he could still manage to win the hearts of the young audience who gave him a standing ovation. With Anandji Shah setting the tone for the evening, even gaffes such as the list of winners disappearing, were tolerated with good-hearted humour.

Coming to the list of winners, it was Cuban film Behavior (Conducta) by Ernesto Daranas, produced by Isabel Prendes, Danileo Leon, Joel Ortega and Adriana Moya, which won the Government of Maharashtra Prabhat Best International Film Award. Prabhat Best Director Award was shared by Zdenek Tyc from Czech Republic for the film Like Never Before and Russia’s Alexander Kott for the film Test. Special Jury Award was given to child artiste Tizita Hagere of the Ethiopian film Difret while Jury’s Special Mention went to actress Samantha Castillo for film Bad Hair (Venezuela, Peru, Argentina, Germany) as well as producer Mushfiq Hatamov for film Nabat (Azerbaijan).

Elizabeth Ekadashi directed by Presh Mokashi and Killa (The Fort) directed by Avinash Arun shared the Sant Tukaram Best Marathi International Film Award. Bhaurao Karhade for Killa (best director), Ushai Naik for Ek Hazarachi Note (best actor) won the Akhil Bharatiya Chitrapat Mahamandal’s awards. Marathi films Salaam (Salute) won the PIFF Audience Award for Best Marathi Competition Film while Test (Russia) won in international film category.

In the MTDC short film competition, Odyssey — Unfolding Maharashtra by Mrinmayee Vaishampayan and Aditi Patwardhan, Nighoj by Dinkar Pandit and Serendipity by Sachin Patekar won first prizes in culture of Maharashtra, natural and man-made Heritage categories.

In the students’ category, Sunny directed by Barbara Ott from Germany won best film award wjile Russia’s Sofia Gewelier won best director award for her film Given in Exchange. The best screenplay was awarded to Sunny Sharma for film Manorath while Best Animation Film (India) went to Magarawasi by Supifocom, India.
