Amitabh Bachchan: I am open to doing Gujarati movies

For every Amdavadi, the morning of Uttarayan means a clear blue sky, the right wind flow, and loads of savouries.
But this Uttarayan was quite different. Though the heavy mist dampened the festive spirit for a little while, a mere glimpse of India’s most loved actor flying kites in Ahmedabad was a sure shot mood lifter. And why not, how often do you get to see Amitabh Bachchan flying kites on the terrace next door? Whilst enjoying the festivities and in between promoting his upcoming movie Shamitabh, he indulged in a quick chat with Ahmedabad Times.

What are your most cherished memories of Uttarayan?
I started flying kites at a very young age. At that time we had limited pocket money, so apart from buying kites we used to gather kites from varied sources like the ones that were on the next terrace or kites which got cut and fell on our terrace and so on. From petty fights with friends to sharing the same kite with them, we all used to have a wonderful time.
Coming back to films, is there a checklist that you keep in mind before signing a new film?
No. I am not really that curious who would dig deep in any matter. It is directors like Balki who bring amazing scripts to me and feed my brain the curiosity seeds, and so I end up doing these varied movies just to see how far can I push the envelope and test my limits. (Laughs) You have now worked with R Balki twice. It is always good to work with people you share the same wavelength with and have a sense of comfort. But as an actor when you are in front of the camera, you focus only on your performance and hardly think about anyone or anything else.

What’s the secret to your impeccable style?
There’s no secret. I wear clothes that I feel comfortable in, the ones in which I can do my entire day’s chores with ease. For instance I’m wearing a plain white kurta pyjama as I think the attire is extremely comfortable for such an event and because it’s a little cold in here I have added a jacket over it! Are you open to doing Gujarati movies? Yes. I’m open to do films in as many languages as possible!
