Australasian Medical and Scientific Limited (AMSL) has announced a new four-hour screening test for wine spoilage organism Brettanomyces bruxellensis (Brett).

Traditional methods take up to 12 days for a result and are often unreliable, according to AMSL.

Brett is a commonly occurring organism in the brewing and wine industries, which can alter the taste and aroma of the finished product.

When caught early, there are various intervention methods available in order to prevent spoilage from occurring, and the Veriflow Brett system from Invisible Sentinel delivers a new, ultra-sensitive and user-friendly class of diagnostics to the fermentation industry.

The Veriflow Brett test provides results in four hours, which allows same-day action to be taken.

The system has a simplified sample preparation which minimises hands-on time and provides visual, easy-to-interpret results.

The patented technology allows for the sensitivity of real-time PCR tests, but with the ease-of-use associated with flow-based assays.
